Shahidan: 'Wait till after GE14'

KANGAR: Former Perlis FA (PFA) president, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has dropped a hint that he wants to bring back the glory days of the Northern Lions after the 14th General Elections (GE14).

Shahidan said that the time has come for the Northern Lions to better perform after being seen as ‘lost’ for the last couple of seasons.

“For almost 10 years we have been lost, so the time has come for us to return and make an impact in the local football arena.

“I know that at present, PFA are enduring financial difficulties and current president Shaharuddin Ismail has met up with me to seek assistance, and I will help him,” said Shahidan earlier today.

PFA have been in financial trouble after a corporate company pulled out from sponsoring the team at the 11th hour.

Following this, the team has faced problems in paying the players’ salaries which is understood to be a month behind.

However, when asked if he will be making a return to helming PFA, Shahidan declined to comment.

“For now I will help my comrade (Shaharuddin) first. Wait till after the General Election,” said Shahidan.

For the record, when PFA were led by Shahidan, the Northern Lions were one of the most feared teams and they won silverware.

Perlis emerged as Malaysia Cup champions twice in 2004 and 2006, apart from winning the Super League title in 2005.
