Family of Klang man crushed under bus gets Socso payout

KLANG: The widow of a man who was crushed while repairing a bus in Bukit Kapar, Klang on March 7, has succeeded in her claim for compensation under Sosco’s (Social Security Organisation) Survivor Pension Scheme.

Norazlin Mohd Wirsat, 50, the widow of the late Mohd Fuad Suratman, 51, was presented with a RM2,000 cheque by Klang Socso manager, Zainal Ismail, at her home in Jalan Iskandar, Bukit Kapar, Klang, today.

Zainal said the next-of-kin would receive a pension at RM1,087.50 per month beginning April.

“Norazlin will receive three portions of the scheme while her three children, who are still under her care, would receive two other portions each month until they are 21, or until they have completed their first degree,” he told the media.

Through the Sosco Prihatin Squad, Zainal presented benefit cheques and a hamper to the family.

Also present were Federal Barisan Nasional coordinator for the Sementa state assembly, Azhar Ayob, and Meru state assembly coordinator, Datuk Mohklis Jaafar.

Zainal said the case was unique as Mohd Fuad last made his Socso contribution in 2007, more than 10 years ago.

“We learnt of what happened to Norazlin’s family through media reports, so we delved deeper and discovered that her husband had made contributions to Socso.

“Even though the period of the contribution was brief, the family is still entitled to the payout. However, the benefits are reduced by 50 per cent,” he said.

Norazlin said she was unaware that her husband had made Socso contributions.

“When a Sosco staff came to the house and told us about the scheme, I was surprised but also grateful. When my husband passed away, I was clueless on how to take care of my three children’s expenses, who are still studying in university and in school.

“I can use the benefits to cover their daily expenses, including equipment at the university and school,” she said.

Previously, the media had reported on the fatal accident involving Mohd Fuad, who was killed when the bus he was fixing dragged him under it near Masjid At-Taqwa, Bukit Kapar, Klang.
