Johor Sultan forgives Nazri after apology from the latter

JOHOR BARU: Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, has forgiven Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz for involving the palace in political issues.

This follows an audience granted by the ruler to Nazri today, during which the latter was said to have apologised to the Sultan and Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

In his latest Facebook posting, Sultan Ibrahim said he had decided to forgive Nazri for involving him, Tunku Ismail and the Johor palace in politics.

He said people needed to apologise if they did something wrong, adding that this was important so that no rift occurs.

“As mere mortals, we are bound to make mistakes. So, when we realise we have made a mistake, we should quickly ask for forgiveness. Don’t let it get to the point where a rift occurs.

“In addition, we are Malays and Malays are a very civilised people. If you do something wrong, come and apologise.

“Whatever differences we have had before this, I have forgiven, and (Tunku Ismail) has forgiven as well,” he said.

In the hour-long audience at Istana Pasir Pelangi, at which Tunku Ismail was also present, Sultan Ibrahim said he placed the utmost importance on the welfare and unity of his subjects.

The ruler also issued a warning to “certain parties” not to drag the issue on longer as he considers it settled.

“What is important is that we move forward and always give priority to unity. Do not try to cause a rift in the unity that we have built all this while,” he said.

In 2015, Sultan Ibrahim had issued a warning to Nazri not to interfere in the affairs of the palace by making statements which touched on the Johor royal institution.
