Guan Eng selfie with Datuk Seri under MACC investigation on tunnel project circulated

GEORGE TOWN: Lim Guan Eng has found himself under the spotlight yet again after a selfie of him with a businessman who is being investigated by graft busters over the Penang undersea tunnel project started making its rounds on social media today.

In the photo, the chief minister can be seen posing for a selfie with the businessman in what looks like the back seat of a car.

The photo has been circulated just days after Lim tried to deflect the controversy surrounding another picture of him with the businessman in what looks like a private residence which emerged earlier this month.

The latest selfie has further fueled questions on their alleged friendship.

The picture was posted on a Facebook user by the name Sarah Farhana who alleged that the selfie was taken in August last year.

Previously Lim’s office had released a statement on the first photo of the duo stressing that it was a disgusting attempt to smear the chief minister.

Lim’s office had also said that it was normal for a public figure like him to be photographed with many people, including those he did not know.

Meanwhile, Parti Cinta Malaysia vice president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan also posted on his Facebook questioning Lim over his relationship with the businessman,

“What happened?...I thought Lim Guan Eng doesn’t know who the businessman is?,” he posted, while also naming the businessman involved.

It was reported that the businessman - who has a Datuk Seri title, was detained over allegations that he was paid RM19 million after promising that he was able to slam the brakes on investigations into the tunnel project being carried out by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC).

The controversial proposed RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel project had raised numerous controversies in recent months, especially on the high cost of feasibility studies as well as the 22-month delay in completing it.
