Opposition continues to harp on 1MDB because they have run out issues - Arul Kanda

IPOH: 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) continues to be in the opposition's crosshair because they have run out of issues to attack the government, its chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy said today.

Speaking at a 'Bicara Negara' talk at Kinta Riverfront Hotel, he said the issues raised by the opposition were irrelevant and nothing more than a polemic being manipulated due to the approaching 14th General Election (GE14).

"It is not that they don't understand (the issue) but they refuse to understand it.

"The opposition has actually run out of ideas. The government has made various efforts to improve the economy and provide job opportunities. They can't criticise government policies so they have nothing," he said.

Also present at the talk was Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir. The programme is part of a nationwide tour to explain the 1MDB issue to the people. Arul Kanda is expected to give another talk in Kuantan, Pahang tonight.

Arul Kanda also explained that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak continued to be linked with 1MDB because of his former position as the chairman of its advisory board.

He pointed out that the advisory board did not have any executive powers.

He also urged the people not to speculate on the US Department of Justice (DoJ) civil suit against the company,

"The civil suit has been filed in July 2016, but up until today, it has yet to be brought to the court. Why the proceeding has yet to start?" he said.
