Majlis Syura Patani open to all views on peace dialogue with Thai govt

KOTA BARU: Majlis Syura Patani (MARA Patani) is open to all views and recommendations on its peace dialogue with the government of Thailand.

“The ongoing discussion in the peace dialogue between Mara Pattani and the Thai government is still at the technical level,” said Shukri Hari, head of the Mara Pattani discussion team.

“It has not been endorsed by the Joint-Working-Group Peace Dialogue Process (JWG-PDP). Therefore, all the agreements reached are not yet final.

“Mara Pattani is open to all views and recommendations from the people towards the right to self-determination.

“We have confidence in the Thai peace dialogue team mandated by the prime minister and we are convinced that it is a formal process that has been adopted as a national agenda.”

He told a press conference here today that MARA Patani was committed to solving the conflict through the peace dialogue.

However, Shukri said MARA Patani was concerned about certain statements and actions of the commander of the Fourth Army that contradicted the peace process.

“We would like to emphasise that two issues – `Bringing people home’ project and the ‘14 safety zone’ declared by the Fourth Army commander are not at all related to the peace dialogue process between MARA Patani and the Thai government,” he said.
