Malaysia stands firm with Saudi Arabia in its moves to protect the Kingdom's safety

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia stands firm with Saudi Arabia in its actions to preserve the Kingdom's safety and stability.

The Foreign Ministry said Malaysia condemned the missile attacks reportedly fired by Yemen's Houthis towards Saudi Arabia on Sunday (March 25).

However, all were intercepted and destroyed by the Saudi Royal Air Defence Forces. One person was reportedly killed while two were injured, caused by shrapnel falling from the sky.

"They are a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and constitutes a grave threat to regional and global peace and security.

"Moving forward, Malaysia hopes that the ongoing conflict in the region will be resolved through political and diplomatic channels," the ministry said in a statement today.

It also confirmed that thus far, there were no Malaysians involved in the incident,

"Malaysians are advised to stay calm and those who require consular assistance may contact its Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate General in Jeddah," it added,

Other countries including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan were reported to have condemned the missile attacks.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition of Arab states, backed by the US for three years to dislodge Houthi rebels, who grabbed power from Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
