Charity off-road competition targets RM1 million collection for orphanages, needy

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The inaugural Johor Off-Road Charity Challenge 2018 aims to collect RM1 million over three days of competition at Marketplace Precinct Sunway Iskandar.

The event, a joint project between Sunway Iskandar and Kelab Johor Jaya 4x4, is being held to collect donations to be channeled to orphanages and the needy.

Sunway Property chief marketing officer Dr Gerard Kho said the competition which begins on April 27 has RM30,000 worth of prizes on offer in four categories – open body class, buggy class, original class and camping class.

“As an entity that is one of the main players in Iskandar Puteri, Sunway Iskandar welcomes initiatives such as this. It is hoped that this initiative can not only promote eco-tourism in Johor, but also build strong relationships among stakeholders here so that the economy can continue to grow,” he told a press conference to announce the event.

Kelab Johor Jaya 4x4 president Datuk Wong Chen Chuong said the club had set a target of getting 800 participants and an audience of 3,000 people over the course of the three days.

He said a charity dinner would be held at the end of the programme.

Wong thanked Sunway Iskandar for supporting the event, which he said would indirectly attract 4x4 endurance enthusiasts from around the country and Thailand, Singapore, China and Taiwan.

The entrance fee for the challenge ranges from RM100 to RM600. There is also a drone photography and video recording competition with an entrance fee of RM50.
