New promotion grade - Grade DG56 – for education service officers will benefit 323 workers

PUTRAJAYA: The government’s move to introduce a new promotion grade – Grade DG56 – for education service officers will give a positive impact to the education sector.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the additional grade will benefit school principals, officers at the district education office and sector chiefs at state education department who were under Grade DG 54.

"I am very satisfied with the announcement about DG 56. This is a good move.

"It will give a positive impact to public service particularly the education sector," he told reporters after the 16th Civil Service Premier Gathering (MAPPA).

At the event, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced that the government had agreed to create a new promotion grade – Grade DG56 – for education service officers who had been in Grade 54 for five years and shown excellent service.

He said this will take effect on Jan 1 next year and will give opportunity for 323 officers to get promoted, at an estimated financial implication of RM7.4 million.

Mahdzir said the additional layer of pay grade would enable the education officers under the Grade 54 to enjoy promotion even if they could not reach the Grade Jawatan Utama Sektor Awam or JUSA C.

"Currently, the pay grade for education officers is from DG41 to DG54, before reaching JUSA C. So for those who may not be promoted to JUSA C, they can still be promoted to DG56," he added.
