Dr Mahathir's denial that he owns stake in The Loaf untrue: Eric See-To

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s denial that he owns a stake in premium bakery The Loaf which ceased its operation on April 12 was found untrue, with several evidence shared on the social media.

Barisan Nasional Strategic Communications (BNSC) deputy director Eric See-To said all along the former prime minister had said that The Loaf was indeed his company, but now that it had ceased operations, he was denying it.

"This is false. The Companies Commission of Malaysia's (SSM) records shows that Dr Mahathir owns 10.062 million shares in M & M Consolidated Sdn Bhd, which is the owner of The Loaf. He is also a director of the company.

"He also claims that he only owns 200 shares in a tobacco company and Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB).

"This is also false. He is also the owner of Euroala Sdn Bhd and Evektor company, both airline manufacturers," he said in a statement on his Facebook page.

Eric said Dr Mahathir was also the third largest shareholder for The Palace of The Golden Horses hotel in Seri Kembangan.

He also enclosed records of SSM which show the involvement of Dr Mahathir in M & M Consolidated and the other companies.

Responding to the closure of The Loaf yesterday, Dr Mahathir denied his involvement with the bakery, after it ceased operations after 12 years of service.

He said he only has some 200 units of shares with Malaysian Tobacco and PNB.

The closure of the bakery was announced through a notice uploaded on social media dated April 9, which was addressed to their customers.

The notice, however, did not state the reason why the outlet was closed.

The management only said it was satisfied that The Loaf had achieved its primary objective of improving the quality of breads and the bakery industry in the country.
