MDEC booth a hit among youth entrepreneurs at Gegaria Fest 2018

SUNGAI PETANI: The Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC)’s booth at the Gegaria Fest 2018 #KitaOk, organised by Media Prima Bhd, was a hive of activity, with youths thronging the booth to learn more about the eRezeki and eUsahawan initiatives.

MDEC Corporate Affairs Brand and Communication senior executive, Mohamad Syafiq Azhar, said since joining Gegaria Fest 2018 #KitaOk in Ipoh last month, the feedback from young entrepreneurs who wished to expand their business through online platforms was overwhelming.

“We have achieved our target of reaching out to help young entrepreneurs through Gegaria Fest 2018 #KitaOk although we only took part in Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Seremban and here in Sungai Petani.

“In fact, the response from visitors here exceeded our expectation due to Sunday being a working day in Kedah. Many people stopped by our booth since morning to register and get more information on our products,” he said.

Syafiq said MDEC’s participation at Gegaria Fest 2018 #KitaOk also saw them identify many youths who visited the festival not only for entertainment but also to gain new knowledge, such as on the #YOUCANDUIT campaign, which can help them generate more income.

Syafiq said #YOUCANDUIT was introduced in 2016 to help people generate new income through digital platforms.

He said through #YOUCANDUIT at Gegaria 2018 #KitaOk, visitors could meet up with MDEC celebrity icon Mok Cun or Erma Fatima and Fizo Omar and obtain feedback from them on ways to utilise digital platforms.

“At Gegaria Fest 2018 #KitaOK, our focus is on attracting youth participation as they are well adapted to the digital world and the use electronic gadgets. They could gain benefits from the two programmes instead of wasting their digital knowledge on negative activities,” he said.

He said MDEC, through the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, was delighted to partner with Media Prima in reaching out to the youth community.

MDEC, he said, will continue the #YOUCANDUIT campaign by joining Media Prima programmes such as the Gegaria Fest throughout this year to help more people to generate new income through online platforms.
