More than 2mil job opportunities gone if development projects are cancelled: Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 2.2 million job opportunities will be lost if development projects planned under the current administration are cancelled, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.

In his latest posting on najibrazak.com, Najib said this was what the opposition intend to do if they run the country.

He pointed out that development projects were meant to boost the economy and provide jobs to the people.

“Malaysia needs economic stimulus projects, especially in developing areas.

“The purpose of implementing these economic catalyst projects are to improve the standards of living of the people, unlike the opposition who want to cancel these projects because of (their own) political agenda, without considering the impact on the national economy and interests of the people.

“If these development projects are cancelled, 2.2 million job opportunities will disappear, including skilled workers earning more than RM3,000,” he said.

Among the projects mentioned in his blog were the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, KL-Singapore High Speed Rail project, Pan Borneo Highway, Bandar Malaysia, Tun Razak Exchange, Mass Rapid Transit, Pengerang and KL118.

Najib said the government hoped that such development could be felt throughout the country and by all levels of society.

He gave an example that if the ECRL project is cancelled, the East Coast states will not receive development in tandem with those in the Klang Valley.

“This will cause income of people in the East Coast to stagnant.

“Even foreign investors will lose confidence in our country due to the cancellation of projects deemed as key economic development and employment enhancement for Malaysians.” he said.
