Niosh to launch programme to reduce accident s at workplace in August

PUCHONG: The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) will launch a new mental health programme called Total Health Awareness by August in collaboration with the Health Ministry.

Its chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the awareness programme will focus on mental health to reduce accidents at workplace.

Lee said besides the efforts to improve physical safety, Niosh had taken a more holistic approach by also giving more attention to mental health of the workers.

“The programme will include the sharing of knowledge on stress at the workplace as well as how to keep the mind healthy and free from negative elements including the spread of untrue information that involved the elements of violence.

“However, mental health is under the Health Ministry’s expertise, so Niosh is working with the ministry to get appropriate training modules for the programme.

“This programme will be generally implemented involving all areas and employment agencies, abd is expected to commence in August,” he told a press conference at the launch of “Safety At School” Program organised by Gamuda Bhd at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulau Meranti, here today.

Also present was Gamuda Engineering director (business development) Datuk Mohammad Imran Ismail.
