More than 50 years wait finally over for Kampung Chubadak villagers

KUALA LUMPUR: The residents of Kampung Chubadak, a squatting settlement, can finally breathe a sigh of relief after waiting for more than 50 years to receive a home to call their own.

A total 340 villagers yesterday received their offer letters to live at the newly finished People’s Housing Project (PPR) Sentul Murni which was developed by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

National Housing Department N. Jayaselan said the ceremony proved that the Federal government was always aware of the people’s needs and welfare especially those who are less fortunate.

He said the actual cost of the PPR project, which consists of 500 units, was at RM82 million or RM164,200 each.

However, he said, the government agreed to absorb a huge sum of the project cost and sell it for only RM35,000 each.

“This means there is a subsidy of RM129,200 per unit.

“This shows the government has always strived to provide the best facilities and housing for the people including those from the lower income group as well as squatters.

“The residents of PPR Sentul Murni now think, is there any other government like BN, who aware and concern about your the welfare and comfort of those less fortunate,” said Jayaselan in his speech.

Resident Rahmah Musa, 64, could not contain her emotions when she received the letter.

“I am very happy and excited as our 50-year wait is finally over. This is my first real home despite squatting in Kampung Chubadak for nearly 50 years or so.

“Even greater news is that we got a OKU-friendly (disabled) unit,” said the wheelchair-bound Rahmah.

She said she would be moving in with her husband Anuar Yassin, who works as a driver, and three children.

Also present were BN’s Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat candidate Datuk Yeow Teong Look and Umno Batu Division Chief Datuk Yahya Mat Ghani.
