Weak tremor felt near Niah

MIRI: A weak tremor at 3.9 on the Richter scale was recorded in Niah near here today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department, in a statement, said the tremor could be felt at 5.52pm in areas near Niah.

The department added there was no threat of tsunami issued following the weak earthquake.

Miri Zone Fire and Rescue Department chief Law Poh Kiong said he has instructed his men to check the situation on the ground.

“From what we have concluded, none of the villagers felt the weak tremor. The situation is under control,” he said.
