Kelantan police say no phantom voters in the state

KOTA BARU: Kelantan police chief Datuk Hassanudin Hassan has denied claims that a group of phantom voters had entered the state.

He said this in response to claims that went viral on social media yesterday stating that about 800 foreign workers were placed at Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN) in Tanah Merah.

He said police had received reports on the matter but initial investigations showed that those who were brought in had valid identification documents such as passport, identification card and border pass.

“We have received reports claiming there may be phantom voters there but we were informed by the Immigration Department that the majority of them were citizens,” he said during a get-together for police personnel who will be working during the 14th General Election tomorrow.

About 1,000 police personnel from Bukit Aman will be on duty for GE14 in Kelantan.

Hasanudin said the group of people would be sent to the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Safety Complex in Bukit Bunga before those with passport or border pass can return to their respective destination or remain in the country.

“They are not arrested but the Immigration Department will bring them to and fro the ICQS to be placed there for the time being to avoid any untoward incidents. Claims that they are hiding in IKBN are not true based on the response we received,” he said.
