Illegal gambling crackdown continues in Sarawak

KUCHING: Police launched 19 raids in its bid to wipe out illegal gambling activities across the state.

A total of 28 people including 11 women aged between 17 and 35 were nabbed in the swoop on Wednesday.

State Criminal Investigations Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Denis Leong said all the suspects will be detained further for investigations under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

“We raided 13 locations involved in illegal four-digit lottery,” he said adding 17 people were held and an assortment of paraphernalias were seized including cash RM2,401.

“Six operations were against online gambling activities,” Leong said.

A total of 11 people were held and cash amounting to RM2,446 were seized.

“We will continue to monitor the illegal gambling closely and intensify efforts to combat such activities,” he added.
