Maszlee must uphold Bahasa Melayu from the school level

GOMBAK: International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM) has suggested that the newly appointed Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik to uphold Bahasa Melayu from the school level.

Its president Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim said all members of UIAM are really proud of Maszlee’s achievement and wished that he would be able to continue upholding Bahasa Melayu from the early stage of school in the country.

“We are proud of Maszlee’s achievement especially he was UIAM’s former lecturer under the political science department and was one of the most dedicated and highly dedicated lecturers.

“I'd like to congratulate him on his appointment and wish to see him to continue upholding Bahasa Melayu from the early stage of school and also to apply this language to all levels of education in the country.

“Not to be forgotten is the practice of good morale should also get more focus at school. On top of that, the national schools should also consider providing language courses such as Mandarin, Arabic and Tamil for the students,” he said in a statement today.

IIUM rector Prof Datuk Seri Dr Zaleha Kamarudin also congratulated the appointment of the new minister and wished for Maszlee to be fully committed in embarking on the appointment entrusted to him.

“Maszlee is well-known with good moral and capable of expressing new ideas as part of efforts to reform the nation’s education sector.

“We at UIAM are ready to give solid support for Maszlee and we pray that he would be fully committed in embarking on this new trust given to him and uphold education and the Education Ministry that he is leading,” Zaleha said.

Previously Maszlee used to serve as a lecturer at UIAM for 18 years (2000-2018) under the political science department and he had also written books on governance and government’s governance.
