MACC chief calls his predecessor 'a traitor'

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdull regards his predecessor, Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad, as a "traitor" for allegedly attempting to cover up wrongdoings in the SRC International case.

He said Dzulkifli, with his legal background and being a former Deputy Public Prosecutor, should have been strengthening the case and not protect the wrongdoer.

"By rights, he (Dzulkifli) should study the case and collect evidence, not protect the wrongdoer. I see him as a traitor to the country," he told a press conference on Tuesday.

Shukri said that at the time, he felt that he could no longer cope with working under Dzulkifli and decided to retire early.

After early retirement, he then took up an Arabic language course in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

At the time, former MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamad was placed in Universiti Teknologi Mata (UiTM).

"We heard rumours then that Dzulkifli would be put in the top post (chief commissioner) a few months before that.

"I even met then_prime minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa to urge them to appoint Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali as MACC chief commissioner," he said.
