MACC probe on me politically motivated, waste of time says Jeffrey Kitingan

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan claims investigations launched by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission on a complaint that he received RM20 million after the 14th General Election is politically motivated.

The Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku or Star president did not elaborate further on his reasoning but urged the MACC to also investigate those who lodge the report against him for wasting time, taxpayers money and causing inconvenience.

“People who spread such news should be probed. I pity the MACC officers who had to come to my house in the middle of the night and investigate for hours,” Jeffrey said after he was interviewed for four hours by the MACC at its state headquarters here on Tuesday.

Jeffrey who is also Tambunan assemblyman and Keningau Member of Parliament confirmed the MACC have launched the investigations on claims he received RM20 million for certain party after the polls.

Star won two state seats in the election and helped the Sabah Barisan Nasional, that won 29 seats, form the government with a simple majority of 31 out of 60 seats before Upko switched sides and formed an alliance with the Parti Warisan Sabah-Pakatan Harapan pact to take over power.

Jeffrey said officers from the MACC contacted him when he was in Tambunan and visited his home cum office in Keningau on Monday. “They then asked me to come to the office today (Tuesday).”

“While they were in my house and office, I asked them what they were looking for and they told me it has something to do with the RM20 million report against me. I told them to continue looking.

“They were professional, nice and cooperative. I have nothing to hide. I will say its a waste of time but that’s their job,” said Jeffrey who was at the MACC office here from 2pm to 6pm.

Jeffrey said the MACC took a bag containing RM80,000 some bank cards and documents from his house which is also used as his office.

The MACC also visted the house of Star Bingkor assemblyman Robert Tawik on Monday.
