Justo makes 2nd appearance at MACC

PUTRAJAYA: Former Petrosaudi International employee Xavier Andre Justo has arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters here this morning.

It is understood that he is meeting the special investigation team probing the case involving 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Justo was seen entering the building at about 9am today. This is the second time Justo has visited MACC.

Justo, a Swiss national, was sentenced to three years’ jail on Aug 17 after he pleaded guilty to blackmailing his former employer, PetroSaudi International.

On June 22, 2015, Justo was arrested at his home on Koh Samui island after PetroSaudi officials filed a complaint that Justo attempted to blackmail the firm for 2.5 million Swiss francs (RM10.9million) with documents stolen from the company.

However, in Dec 2016, Justo was among thousands of foreign prisoners who was granted a royal pardon by Thailand’s king, King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradeva-rangkun.

Justo was accused of sharing information on 1MDB with Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown, who arrived in the country on Friday.

It was reported that Justo met with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad twice last week.

Members of the 1MDB special taskforce held their first meeting on Tuesday to discuss asset recovery; the retrieval of money and assets siphoned off from the 1MDB state fund; and taking action against those involved in criminal activities relating to the case.

Suspects will be charged under the MACC Act/Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

In a statement, the task force said the members appointed by Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad have pledged to carry out their duties transparently, fairly and professionally.

The document was signed by former Attorney General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail; MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Syukri Abdull; former MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed; and Bukit Aman Special Branch senior officer Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador.
