Trade Ministry runs checks on business premises to ensure prices are based on zero-rated GST

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) have checked 14,740 items from 491 business premises in the state since May 24 this year.

State director Mohd Ridzuan Ab Ghapar said that its personnel had collected data of the prices for the items which were imposed the six per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) to cross-check with the new zero-rating GST prices beginning June 1.

He said that if the prices were similar or had been increased after the implementation of the zero-rating GST, the traders have to provide reasonable explanations before notices or compounds are issued.

“KPDNKK is giving three days to all premises’ owners to lower the prices of goods according to the new zero-rating GST.

“After three days, we will conduct checks again. If owners fail to abide by the new system, we will issue notices under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011,” he said when met during the Operasi Catut 4.0 Change GST rate from six per cent to zero per cent at Tesco Extra here today.

Meanwhile, Mohd Ridzuan said that KPDNKK always monitors the prices of goods during festive seasons.

“Until today, we have yet to receive reports of sudden increase in controlled goods prices from the people.

“If there are any, please report it to us,” he added.
