School buys Raya outfits for underprivileged pupils

KUANTAN: Mohammad Fazari Altaf Azizan, 11, from SK Padang Garuda could not contain his excitement as he donned a baju Melayu while his school teachers look on.

Fazari was among the 45 underprivileged children from the school who were identified by SK Padang Garuda Welfare Club to receive a RM60 aid in conjunction with Aidilfitri.

The children were accompanied by club members comprising school teachers to a shopping mall as part of the charity programme.

“Aidilfitri is merrier and more meaningful with the aid we received from our teachers who are concerned with our welfare.

“I am thankful to the teachers who had been providing Raya clothes for us since 2016. I am also happy to be able to choose the outfit myself,” said the youngest of four siblings who lost his father six years ago.

Fazari said he would be celebrating Aidilfitri in Kampung Batu Lima Jalan Kuantan-Gambang.

School headmaster and club chairman, Mohd Al Hamadi Abu Bakar, said the programme was aimed at easing the burden of the pupils’ families.

“The pupils are accompanied to the mall to allow them to try and buy clothes of their own choice. We are responsible in not only imparting knowledge to our students, but also to extend help to those in need, especially the poor and the orphans.

“The Raya shopping session for the underprivileged is an annual affair that also helps to foster better ties between the teachers and pupils,” he said.
