Remains of Johor Sultan's mother arrives at Istana Besar

JOHOR BARU: The ambulance carrying the remains of Enche' Besar Hajah Khalsom Abdullah, the mother of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, arrived at Istana Besar here at 11.45pm.

The ruler’s private aircraft carrying the remains from the United Kingdom had earlier arrived at the Royal Hangar of the Senai International Airport at about 11 pm.

Present at the Royal Hangar were Sultan Ibrahim and other royal family members as well as Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian and state Exco members.

Upon arrival, the remain was transferred to Sultan Ibrahim’s personal ambulance and was taken to the Istana Besar.

On Wednesday, her remains would be placed at the palace's throne room (Bilik Singgahsana) for the public to pay their last respects from 8am to 10pm.

The remains would then be interned at the Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum.

Hajah Khalsom died at the King Edwards VII Hospital in London at 7.55pm local time on Friday at the age of 83.

She was born on December 2, 1935 and was survived by her three princesses and one prince namely Tunku Kamariah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, Tunku Besar Zabedah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, Sultan Ibrahim and Tengku Puan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
