1MDB investigation committee chief hopes new AG will be fair in probe

KUALA LUMPUR: 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) investigation committee chairman Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman expressed hope that new Attorney-General Tommy Thomas will exercise impartiality when investigating the controversy linked to the investment fund.

In congratulating Thomas over his new appointment, Abu Talib said the committee would submit its report to the AG's Chambers once the probe into the case is completed.

"The new AG had said he would need study the case after (the committee's) report is submitted. We wish him all the best (in discharging his duties).

"We also hope that he (Thomas) will ensure justice for all, to the state and the persons alleged not to have observed the law," Abu Talib told reporters after a meeting with the Securities Commission at Ilham Tower on Thursday.

When pressed, Abu Talib declined to divulge details or elaborate on the committee's findings. He said the investigation committee members would continue to meet until the case was solved.

The 1MDB investigation committee includes PwC Risk Assurance Services partner Nik Shahrizal Sulaiman, Naqiz Partners senior partner Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin Syed Abdul Jabbar, Financial Services Authority Indonesia senior adviser Faris Rabidin and Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism director and founder Cynthia Gabriel.
