Perak to cooperate with the EU to strengthen economy

IPOH: Perak aims to further strengthen business relations and economic cooperation with the European Union (EU), following the latter’s visit to the silver state to explore business opportunities recently.

Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the state government was undertaking all out efforts to reap huge existing market potential by strengthening its bilateral ties with the EU, following positive feedback from the latter.

“A total of 17 ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions have come to Perak since yesterday, and will continue until end of this week and from the discussion that we have had so far, I received good feedback from each of them to strengthen our investment cooperation.

“I have introduced them to several matters to establish our investment cooperation in Perak with the assistance from the Perak Investment Management Centre, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE),” Ahmad Faizal said during a press conference after meeting the representatives for almost two hours at the Banjaran Hotspring Resorts, here, today.

Among the countries involved in the visit are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, German, Hungary, Italy, Norway, and Ireland.

Besides the positive feedback, Ahmad Faizal added that several matters were also discussed during the meeting and the discussion would be adjourned to a later date.

“They all agreed to come back on Sept 27 and 28 to jointly organize a program here and they are also very interested in taking part and to join our efforts to preserve the forests here,” he said.

Ahmad Faizal added that the transition of power in the federal and state governments have also driven them to invest in Perak.

“They are impressed with the smooth transition of power at the federal and state government. EU had also made some good investments in Perak and I have told them that it can be improved.

“They would love to work closely with my office and our government and this is very encouraging,” he added.
