Johor APM to station 304 men at accident hotspots

JOHOR BARU: The state Civil Defence Force (APM) is deploying 304 personnel at nine traffic accident hotspots in a four-day operation that begins tomorrow.

Johor APM director Colonel Mat Zin Bujang reminded motorists, who are heading back to their hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, to be cautious and to keep their eyes on the road at all times.

“Some drivers are too busy responding on group chats. They become distracted and this contributes to traffic accidents,” he said today after launching Op Bantu 17, a rescue operation carried out by APM during the festive seasons.

Mat Zin urged drivers to stop at rest and relax areas along the highway if they wanted to take calls or respond to messages.

He said the easiest way to reach rescue personnel while on the highway was to call 999.
