PH win cost 17,000 govt contract workers their jobs, says Najib

PEKAN: The livelihoods of the country’s 17,000 contractual civil service employees would have been in good hands if Barisan Nasional had won the 14th General Election (GE14).

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said none of them, including some 3,000 Fardhu Ain and Kifayah (Kafa) teachers, would have lost their jobs or had their contracts terminated by Pakatan Harapan (PH).

The Pekan member of parliament said some people were now regretting voting for PH.

“I read a posting by a Kafa teacher saying he voted for PH as everywhere he went people mentioned that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) had resulted in an increase in the price of things,” Najib said at a buka puasa event at the Kampung Padang Polo mosque here today.

“It never crossed his mind that the BN government had been looking after their needs.

“During early Ramadan, the Kafa teacher’s services was terminated and he was left in tears thinking about the future of his two children... the PH government has jeopardised his income and livelihood.”

Najib said the teacher now realised that the BN government had ensured that he could continue to earn sesuap nasi (a mouthful of rice) and would not simply terminate the contract of Kafa teachers nationwide.

“People only realise the value of certain things when they are no longer there... when people are jobless then they begin to realise that BN has looking after them.

“The teacher regrets voting for PH as he lost his job after voting for the coalition. The teacher included his name in the posting. I would like to meet him.”

As a hamba Allah (servant of God), Najib said he accepted the outcome of GE14 with an open heart and it was time to rebuild BN and Umno.

Najib later gave alms to the needy.

Present were his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, and Bebar assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Fakharuddin Mohd Arif.
