Chinese ambassador delivers Raya message in Bahasa Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Among the things we love as Malaysians is when foreigners try their best to converse in our national language.

For the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian, he worked hard to learn some Bahasa Malaysia in order to be able to wish the Muslims in this country a Selamat Hari Raya.

In a video uploaded on the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia's Facebook page, Bai Tian delivered his message in Bahasa Malaysia, on behalf of the people of China, specifically the 20 million Muslims in the republic.

"In conjunction with Hari Raya Puasa, in the name of the people of China, specifically the 20 million Muslims in China, I would like to wish Selamat Hari Raya Puasa to all our Malaysian Muslim friends," Bai Tian said.

He remarked that Malaysia and China are very close, citing an old Malay adage 'bagai isi dengan kuku'.

Bai Tian also wished Muslims in Malaysia to always be blessed with harmony.

This message also marks the opening of the Embassy's first official Facebook page.

Bai Tian took over from Huang Huikang as the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia last year. Huang held the position since 2014.
