Police: Don't spread rumours about Najib fleeing country

ALOR STAR: The police have advised the public not to speculate, pressure and cause exasperation to the police with allegations that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was planning to flee overseas through Langkawi.

Kedah police chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Kasim said spreading such rumours would only cause public unrest and anxiety.

He said the police was well aware of Najib’s arrival on the island with his family members for a holiday.

“He (Najib) came to Langkawi just for a holiday with his family and met with former Kedah Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah) and other leaders.

“It’s just a regular visit and not a meeting. He has been playing golf on the island for two days,” he said when contacted today.

Zainal said that the former security officer of the former prime minister was with him in Langkawi and once again advised the public not to spread rumours that would cause anxiety.

This followed speculation on Facebook that Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor were planning to flee the country.

A Facebook user called Huang Ung had asked the police to take steps to monitor Najib’s movement.

He claimed that Najib would use the sea route at Datai Resort, which was currently closed and under renovation, to Myanmar before flying to China and proceeding to Kazhakstan, where his son-in-law is from.
