Cuepacs: Civil servants urged to make one off contribution to Tabung Harapan

KUALA LUMPUR: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) urged civil servants to voluntarily make a one off contribution to Tabung Harapan Malaysia which as of today has collected RM132.07 million.

Cuepacs president Datuk Azih Muda said that the decision was agreed in the first congress unity meeting that was held on June 26 and that civil members are urged to donate at least RM10 which can be made through salary deductions or to donate directly to their respective heads of department.

“In 1998, civil servants contributed to the former government and Cuepacs will extend the proposal to the chief secretary in the near future and get permission from the government at the federal level, state, statutory bodies and local authorities.

"The salary deduction will only be made once this August and it is a social responsibility especially for the civil servants," he said in a press conference held at Cuepacs headquarters here today.

He said if civil servants want to donate more or less, it is up to them and there will be no coercion or pressure.

“With a total of 1.6 million civil servants, we aim to raise a contribution of RM10 million with the hope that the donation will enable the government to lessen the country’s debt of RM1 trillion."
