Guan Eng: Zeti didn't know about RM2.6 billion in Najib's accounts

PUTRAJAYA: Former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz told Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng it is untrue she knew about the RM2.6 billion transferred into the personal bank accounts of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in 2015.

Lim said Zeti told him this during the Finance Ministry’s in-house Aidilfitri celebration.

“I attended the ministry’s Hari Raya open house just now. Zeti and Tun Daim Zainuddin as well as members of the Council of Eminent Persons attended the open house.

“She raised to me what the former prime minister (Najib) had mentioned. She was upset, (saying that Najib’s claims were) completely baseless and untrue. If that is the case, she should consult with her lawyers.

“I am certain she is doing that and let us wait for her decision to do so. (We) should wait for the due process to take its course,” he told reporters after attending the Customs Department Aidilfitri open house.

Lim also said, as far as the ministry was concerned, it had all the confidence in Zeti’s integrity and credibility.

“If we want to compare between Najib and Zeti, who do you believe? Who has and who has not the Hermes bags? Who has and who has not jewellery worth RM200 million? Who has and who has not RM140 million in cash?

“I will believe Zeti. Let the Malaysian people decide. She knows what to do and let her take the proper course of actions,” he said.

In a recent interview with Malaysiakini, Najib said the former BNM governor was aware of the funds in his bank account prior to the 13th general election (GE13).

He was quoted as saying he had assumed everything was fine when BNM did not say anything about the funds.

He had said if the BNM then had some doubts about the source of the funds, he would have expected them to inform him.
