KUALA LUMPUR: Some 200 people has turned up to show support to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex here where he is expected to be charged.

Holding placards that reads ‘FreeNajib”, the group made up of Umno members and individuals began gathering from 7.30am and made their presence felt as Najib arrives in Proton Inspira escorted by officers from the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission.

Surrounded by strong police presence the group began singing earlier but stopped, obliging instructions from the authorities to maintain order.

Umno Pekan puteri chief Sida Tantiana Sariat said the group is there to demand for the release of Najib who was arrested without concrete evidence. "No need to arrest him in such manner.

"We want the authorities to free Najib. Other party members from Pontian and Temerloh will be joining us to show their support to our division chief," she said when met at the complex compound.

Business consultant, Dr Philip Loh, said Najib was arrested yesterday without a thorough investigation.

"We want this to be stopped, is our Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) bringing back his iron-fist rule.

“Let him (Najib) be tried in a proper way, he has been treated unfairly, harassed and humiliated since 14th General Election ended.

"Is this the new governement that we want? Imagine how normal people will be treated?" he said.

Najib was arrested at his residence in Jalan Langgak Duta at 2.35pm on Tuesday afternoon.

He spent a night in the MACC detention facility while waiting for the authorities to charge him in court in the morning.

Yesterday, the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) Special Task Force had said in a statement that Najib would be taken to the Kuala Lumpur court at 8.30am.

The former prime minister was arrested at 2.35pm yesterday over the probe into SRC International Sdn Bhd (a former subsidiary of 1MDB).

Sources said Najib was expected to face 10 charges on criminal breach of trust relating to the SRC International case.
