Cancer-stricken Puteri Norlisa Najib unable to pay for chemotherapy after bank account frozen

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam has slammed the authorities for freezing the bank account of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s eldest daughter, Puteri Norlisa, who was suffering from cancer.

He said the freezing had affected Norlisa’s chemotherapy treatment as it was difficult to her to settle her treatment bills.

“I have proof that Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has frozen the accounts of Najib’s family members including Najib’s children, Norlisa, Nooryana Najwa, and Norashman.

“It is hard for her (Norlisa) to settle her treatment bills now because she needs money to pay,” he said at a press conference at the court complex here today.

Lokman, who is also Pemantau Malaysia Baru president, said it was ‘waste of time’ to sue MACC, especially its commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull as the authorities were prejudiced against Najib.

“We are practicing ‘law of the jungle’ instead of rule of law.

“It is just a waste of time for me to sue him but I already lodged a police report last week on Shukri’s statement during his first press conference,” he said.

It was reported that the graftbuster had frozen several accounts as part of the investigation into Najib’s involvement in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) financial scandal. The accounts were said to have included those of Najib’s children and his grandchild (Norlisa’s child).

However, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki denied that Najib’s grandchild’s bank account had been frozen.

NST in its exclusive story on June 29 reported that MACC had frozen about 900 accounts linked to 1MDB.

Quoting a source, the report said the accounts were that of scores of individuals who investigators believed had benefited from 1MDB.
