Couple held for producing, selling fake documents in Sabah

SANDAKAN: Sabah Immigration Department has detained a couple, suspected to be involved in producing and selling fake documents to illegal foreign workers, in a raid, near here, on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, enforcement officers stormed a grocery store at Batu 2 1/2, Jalan Utara operated by the couple - a 31-year-old Malaysian and his 28-year-old Indonesian wife.

In the 12.30pm raid, dubbed Ops Serkap, the man was manning the counter while his wife was in a room filled with computers, scanners, and printing devices.

State Immigration Department director Musa Sulaiman said the couple was believed to be selling the fake documents which included passports, health record books, and marriage certificates, at between RM50 and RM230 each.

“They have been taken to the office for further investigation under Section 55D of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2) and Immigration Regulations 1959/63 for altering and producing fake documents,” he said.

He added the man was later released on police bail while his wife has been remanded for not possessing valid travel pass.
