KL City Plan 2020 will finally be gazetted this year [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The wait for the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 will finally be over as it is expected to be gazetted this year.

Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil disclosed this today, commenting on a written reply he received from Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad on the matter.

He said that he and other members of parliament from the capital would be meeting Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz to form a consultative council to discuss the plan.

Khalid, who is Shah Alam MP, in his written reply said the Pakatan Harapan government would take full responsibility in the gazettement of the plan even though there were only a couple of years remaining before reaching 2020.

He said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would be updating its data from 2016 to 2018 before the plan could be gazetted.

“The KL Plan 2020 will be reviewed so that the KL Structure Plan 2040 can also be gazetted,” he said.

The KL Structure Plan was gazetted in 2004 but the more detailed version – the draft KL City Plan 2020, launched in 2008, which received feedback and consultation from the public — had yet to be gazetted.

In the past, residents had raised concerns over the government’s failure to gazette the plan, which was blamed for the unlivable condition, a result of the unplanned and congested city.

They had pointed out the fact that the plan not being gazetted had allowed the authorities and big firms to go about surreptitiously and change the land use while putting ordinary city dwellers on the losing end.

City Hall had said last year that it was pointless to gazette it as it was due to expire by 2020.

It said it would instead look at the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2050.

Earlier Fahmi also said that the gazette of the plan has been part of most KL MPs’ manifesto.

He also said that he would move on to his next promise to have Bangsar South renamed to Kampung Kerinchi to give a sense heritage to dwellers.
