'Tien Chee was a caring, dedicated person' [NSTTV]

SERDANG: Balakong assemblyman Ng Tien Chee, who died in a road accident yesterday, was a dedicated leader who showed a deep concern for the people's welfare.

In his tribute to the late DAP leader, Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han said Tien Chee led a group of Selangor DAP members to Kelantan in 2014 to assist with flood relief efforts.

“I had the privilege of working with him 10 years ago when we were both serving as councillors at

Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and Kajang Municipal Council (MPKJ).

“He was not only dedicated to serving his constituents, but also all Malaysians in the country.

“He always took the initiative to offer help to the people, especially those who were affected by disasters or severe floods,” Sze Han told reporters when met at the Hospital Serdang here this morning.

Tien Chee was killed at 12.30am today when the Nissan X-Trail he was driving crashed into the rear of a trailer lorry at Km11.7 of the Grand Saga Highway.

Tien Chee, who had been travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kajang, died on the spot.

Tien Chee’s death is the second loss of an assemblyman within a month in Selangor.

Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei of PKR, who was the assemblyman for Sungai Kandis, died on July 2 of lymphoma cancer.

The by-election for Sungai Kandis is on Aug 4. The nomination is tomorrow.

In the 14th General Election on May 9, Tien Chee retained the Balakong seat for the second term after beating candidates from BN and Pas with a majority of 35,538 votes.

On a related matter, Sze Han said Tien Chee’s family members are currently identifying the victim’s body.

“I was informed by Tien Chee’s relatives that he will be buried at the Xiao En Memorial Park in Jalan Kuari, Cheras,” he added.

He also said Selangor DAP will hold a special meeting later tonight to discuss the possibility of setting up a committee to assist Tien Chee’s family.

“We will not discuss the Balakong by-election. We will only focus on last night’s unfortunate incident.”
