“I am thankful to the centre’s principal Datuk Mohd Kazim Elias or Ustaz Kazim who had helped to look for a partner for me after learning that I was single,” said Hussain who recited the akad nikah (wedding pledge) in one attempt.

It was the third marriage for Hussain, who hails from Pontian, Johor, and the second for Taiping-born Kamsiah.

Hussain studied religious in Makkah for eight years and was Johor Religious Schools supervisor. He was also an imam at the International Islamic University of Malaysia’s (IIUM) mosque.

“I wish that I will be blessed with long life and peace in performing religious duties, as well as given the opportunity to obtain more knowledge here (at the centre),” said Hussain, who has seven children, 17 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Meanwhile, Kamsiah, said she accepted Hussain as her husband, whom she said had his own special qualities.

“I was also moved to have a look at his knee problem as I used to studied physiotherapy in Australia. I wish to take care of him,” said Kamsiah who has three children and four grandchildren.

She was previously living in Kuala Lumpur and started attending religious classes at the centre three years ago.

Ustaz Kazim said it was the sixth marriage involving the institute’s students.

“Alhamduillah, we managed to unite the couple today. I am grateful because Al Barakah is not only an education centre, but also a place for students to forge ties (silaturrahim).

“The marriage is somewhat a record because Hussain is the most ‘senior’ student of Al Barakah,” he added.
