Don't make policy changes just for the sake of it, Najib tells Pakatan

KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Harapan government should not make policy changes just for the sake of it, says Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Najib, who is former prime minister, said the government's take on the policies of the previous Barisan Nasional government could affect market confidence.

"Market confidence would be affected by uncertainty over the government’s take on the economic policies initiated under the previous administration.

"If there is a lot of uncertainty, it can affect market confidence," Najib said.

Najib said he was not sure about what Pakatan Harapan plans to do with the policy reviews.

“But we, Barisan Nasional, have been recognised by the World Economic Forum which ranked us 23rd in the list of competitive nations.

“The World Bank has also deemed us as being track to becoming recognised as a developed economy in the coming years,” he told reporters in Parliament.

He was responding to a statement by Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who said the government would be reviewing the New Economic Policy (NEP) and others to assess their relevance.

The review, said Azmin, was to ensure that the government's key policies are more rights-based and needs-based.
