KUALA LUMPUR: Umno secretary general Tan Sri Annuar Musa joined in calls for the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) to be dissolved as it was deemed to be more powerful than the Cabinet.
The Ketereh member of parliament said the CEP was so powerful that it could even summon the chief justice and other senior ministers to its office.
He said it was all the more shocking that Cabinet ministers did not seem to have any say when the CEP chairman (Tun Daim Zainuddin) was sent to China on government business.
“What happened to all the ministers...where was the Foreign Ministers and others.
“Where was the deputy prime minister...government business is being given to the CEP to handle as though the ministers are incapable of doing it,” he said.
Annuar said it was only proper the cabinet ordered the CEP to be dissolved considering it was also overstepping its advisory role.
Earlier, former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin also called for the CEPto be dissolved if it continued to overstep its authority.
