KUALA KANGSAR: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, today officially opened three facilities at Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS) here.
They are the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Mosque, a student dormitory of the Perak Islamic Religious Affairs and Malay Customs Council, and the Raja Ashman Shah Library.
The double-storey Raja Permaisuri Bainun Mosque can accommodate 2,000 worshippers at any one time and also functions as a one-stop centre for the people in Taman Chandan Puteri to carry out religious activities.
The five-storey student dormitory has 75 residential units that can accommodate about 700 students and had begun to be used for the 2017/2018 academic session from Jan 21.
The Raja Ashman Shah Library was relocated here in 2008. It had been operating as the USAS Library in Jalan Dato’ Seri Shaari in Ipoh from 1999.
Earlier, USAS vice-chancellor Prof Tan Sri Dr Nordin Kardi, in his speech at the event, said it was hoped that the university would become the royal family’s choice institution for higher education.
”When that happens, USAS will rise in the ranks. USAS, therefore, has to work hard to prepare itself with a world-class education,” he said. -- Bernama
