Dr M, Wan Azizah express condolences over Shaharuddin's passing

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the passing of Seri Setia assemblyman, Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin, as part of life.

“We all have our time in this world.

“As a ‘wakil rakyat’, there is a process for the replacement. We will have to organise a by-election,” he told reporters after chairing the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting on Thursday.

Shaharuddin, who was the Selangor Islamic Affairs, Education, and Human Capital Development state executive councillor, died at 6.28pm at the Putrajaya Hospital on Thursday.

Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, conveyed her condolences over his passing.

“Al-Fatihah. This is the second time after the 14th General Election that PKR has lost a member of the family,” she wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Selangot Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari expressed his dismay over Shaharuddin’s demise.

“I have lost another friend and comrade. He was a close friend in politics. His passing is a loss for the people and the Selangor government,” he said in a statement.

Shaharuddin’s passing came on the heels of the death of Sungai Kandis state assemblyman, Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2 of cancer of the lymphoma.
