SHAH ALAM: Despite having braved the long queues and heat to cast their ballots in Sungai Kandis today, hundreds of voters are lining up a second time at nearby fruit stalls to get their durian fix.
Speaking to the New Straits Times Press today, one durian seller in Sungai Kandis said many voters made a beeline for her stall, where she managed to sell 350kg of the pungent fruit in under three hours.
"I opened for business at 9am and almost immediately, hundreds of people flocked to my stall after voting (at nearby polling centres)," she said, adding that she made more profit today than the past two weeks combined.
Emy said her durians, which were brought in from Raub in Pahang, were sold between RM6 and RM18 a kilogram, and that she usually operated from 9am to 1am every day.
"However, since most of the durians have been sold off already, we will have to close shop early," she said, adding that another lorry filled with durian was on its way to Sungai Kandis from Raub.
Emy said she also plans to cast her vote at the nearby polling centre in SK Jalan Kebun, located next to her shop, later today.
