Come back to Malaysia if you are innocent, KJ challenges Jho Low

KUALA LUMPUR: Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin has responded to fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho’s claims of innocence by challenging him to return to Malaysia and face the authorities.

“Come back to Malaysia and face the authorities. If you are innocent, stop hiding,” he wrote in his Twitter account today.

Khairy also said that Low’s return would finally allow Umno to move forward from the 1MDB scandal.

“(As) long as you are on the run & the other related court cases (SRC) remain pending, my party cannot move beyond the 1MDB issue & rebuild,” he added.

The former Youth and Sports Minister was responding to a statement by Low, which was published by Malaysiakini, in which he slammed Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for “wrongly” acquiring the superyacht Equanimity.

Dr Mahathir himself today also challenged Low to return to Malaysia if he wants to lay claim to the Equanimity.

In 2015, Khairy had brought up the matter of Jho Low’s involvement in the 1MDB scandal and had asked the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to investigate the businessman.

Low has always maintained his innocence over allegations of graft connected to 1MDB.
