OCPDs who fail to curb illegal gambling in their areas to face transfers

KUALA LUMPUR: Several district police chiefs (OCPD) will be transferred following their failure to handle illegal gambling in their respective areas.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said he took the matter of widespread illegal gambling seriously and the transfer orders for several officers have been issued.

He said he would go down to the ground himself in operations to bust illegal gambling if there was a need.

"Police view the illegal gambling issue seriously and we will take immediate action to eradicate it.

"So, after this, there will be more OCPDs that will get transferred.

"In fact, if there is a need, I will join raids at illegal gambling premises based on information we have," he said at a press conference after the launch of the professional communication course, here, today.

Mohamad Fuzi said the police's commitment to eradicate illegal gambling can be seen by the setting up of a Special Operations Room at every state on July 20 to enable members of the public to channel information on the activity.

However, he said as of last week, they have only obtained 173 complaints.

He remarked that public information on illegal gambling within the Kuala Lumpur area was low despite the issue being talked about heatedly here as well as in the Klang Valley, generally.
