A united M'sia leads to prosperity

KOTA KINABALU: Patriotism should be instilled into all, especially the youth, for a unified community that leads to a prosperous country, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

“The virtue of patriotism will not only unite the people, but will ensure the country to continue to progress and boost the economy.

“People will also have jobs and live in peace when there is a political stability in the country,” he said during Sutera Harbours Resort National Day celebration today.

The five-star hotel ushered the upcoming National day and Malaysia day with about 600 staff and hotel guests who took part in the celebration.

Some of its staff, donning traditional ethnics costumes, took part in the parade.

The annual celebration, which was also joined by uniformed personnel, includes flying the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flag, recitation of Rukun Negara and releasing pigeons.

Sutera Harbour resorts Human Resource and Training department director Md Al’freedo Md Yahya said August and September were historical months for Malaysians with National Day being celebrated on Aug 31 and Malaysia Day on Sept 16.

“The theme for National Day celebration is ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku’ which is timely to unify the people of multicultural background and instill patriotism among us.

“As Malaysians, we must be thankful to live in a sovereign and peaceful country,” he added.

Also present were Deputy Sabah Chief Ministers Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau and Christina Liew.
