MELAKA: The state government is planning to give incentives to households here who successfully minimise their water consumption.
The proposal was mooted to recognise efforts by consumers who practise prudent water usage and in line with the green concept adopted in the state.
Chief Minister Adly Zahari said those who consume treated water at the minimum level had contributed to the savings of the source and should be given incentives.
“The said incentives may not necessarily in the form of bill reduction or discounts. We have asked Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB) to look at suitable methods for domestic users and households who practise water saving.
“SAMB will also be asked to review the overall water tariff,” he told a Press conference after attending the state-level Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) with the Community programme at Balai Raya Taman Saujana Seksyen 3, Bukit Katil, here, today.
Also present were TNB Retail chief officer Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan and Melaka TNB Retail customer services head Ahmad Rezahan Mohammad.
On a separate matter, Adly had asked for public cooperation in enabling TNB to install the smart meter at 310,000 houses in the state by year end.
“I have received complaints from residents who were worried that the use of the smart meter would have adverse effects on them including (exposure to) radiation. I was told that the use of smart technology is somewhat similar to smart phones,” he said.
Meanwhile, Megat Jalaluddin said TNB had so far installed 26,000 smart meters at the houses in Melaka.
“There is a total of 340,000 houses in the state and we expect to have 310,000 of them installed with smart meters by end of the year,” he said.
