PUTRAJAYA: Former Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad may face charges in connection with the purchases of hotels in Kuching and Kensington, London, by Felda Investment Corp (FIC).
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki said the deputy public prosecutor was “weighing up” charges against Isa.
“On the issue of Tan Sri Isa, the DPP is currently weighing up the possibility of charges (being brought). MACC will inform you as soon as possible if we get the go ahead from the DPP,” he told reporters.
On June 21 last year, Isa and wife Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid had been called to give their statements to MACC.
MACC had opened investigation papers over allegations of misappropriation of funds in the purchase of hotels in Kensington and Kuching by FIC.
It was alleged that FIC had purchased the hotels at prices which were significantly higher than market value, causing losses to the Felda subsidiary.
It was reported that a Malaysian company which handled the purchase of the hotel in Kensington had accrued RM78 million in profits.
