SANDAKAN: Bird flu outbreak in Sabah is under control, despite new cases reported at two more villages, namely, Kampung Laya-Laya in Tuaran and Kampung Ladang Estate in Tenghilan.
Sabah Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Junz Wong said he had yet received full information on the cases reported in the villages, but confident that the situation was still under control.
He urged the public not to worry about the outbreak as nobody has shown symptoms of being infected with the bird flu disease.
“Give me a bit more time to get information before I release a full statement. I believe this is not a new case as the areas are under surveillance and control.
“There might be chicken (which are infected) within the controlled area and that is unusual,” he said during the handover duty of Municipal Council president here.
Last month, Tuaran was declared as epidemic area after chickens at two farms at Kampung Kauluan were infected by the virus which prompted daily monitoring by Sabah Veterinary Services Department.
The department has started operation to cull birds at two new foci of bird flu disease in Tuaran and Tenghilan.
The outbreak operation director Dr Suhaili Lusin said the department has declared bird flu positive area in Tuaran on Aug 23 and the following day for Tenghilan area.
“There are no commercial farms in those areas; only chickens reared by locals.
“As for Kampung Kauluan, the situation is under controll as there is no new cases reported in the last 21 days,” he said when contacted by NSTP.
