Defence ministry approves RM407,300 additional allocation for lift repairs

KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry has approved an additional allocation of RM407,300 for repairing eight lifts at the​​​​​​​ Desa Setia Wira Quarters, here while another eight lifts will be repaired using the existing policy provisions.

Defence Minister ​​​​​​​Mohamad Sabu said he had talks with the ministry’s secretary-general ​​​​​​​Datuk Halimi Abd Manaf and Malaysian Armed Forces chief Gen Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin.

“They have agreed to channel additional allocations for this year to cover the cost of repairing the eight lifts.

As a result of complaints received, I have made a surprise visit to the ​​​​​​​Desa Setia Wira quarters on Sept 4 and found 16 out of the 27 lifts in that accommodation block were faulty,” he said in a statement in his official Facebook account today.

He also learnt that the situation was compounded by the problem of water supply, forcing the residents to carry water using the stairs of the quarters.

​​​​​​Mohamad said he and the ministry would try to ensure the welfare of every armed forces personnel was always prioritised in spite of the current financial constraints. - Bernama
